volunteers! Just give us a call or an email and we’ll find you something to do that you’ll enjoy, and you will know that you are making a difference.
But people often mean something else when they ask “how can I help?” We live in a community and we want to see the people we are living with live happy, healthy, productive lives. What’s a way to help our neighbors personally, one on one?
The best way to help is to create a relationship. And the best way to do that is to offer understanding, respect, and appreciation for who the person is. You may look at this person and think that they need help. But they may not think they do. Or, they may want or need help in a totally different way from how you think they do. If you take the time to hang out with them and trade stories and jokes, be courteous, and understand where they are coming from, maybe then they will feel safe enough to tell you when they need help, and what kind of help they do need. You can then say whether you are willing to give that kind of help or not.
To donate your time or money, or to come in for help, or both, call LEAF, Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund, at 720-864-4309, or at info@leaflyons.org. Wednesdays we are at the Lyons Community Church from 10 am to 3 pm.
